What is a Nebulizer?
A nebulizer changes the medication from a liquid form to a mist form so that you can inhale it easily into your lungs.
Nebulizers come in home (tabletop) and portable models. The Home nebulizers are larger, and you will have to plug those into an electrical switch.
Whereas the Portable or Handheld nebulizers run on batteries, or you can plug them into a car outlet if you want. Some of them are a bit bigger than a deck of cards, so that they are very easy to carry and you can carry them in a bag or in a briefcase.
You may need a doctor's prescription for a nebulizer, or you can just get one at your pediatrician's office. Many of the people also get the breathing treatments at their doctor's office.
Home nebulizers cost about 7 to 8 thousands or up, plus the cost of accessories as well. Whereas the handheld nebulizers cost a little more than that.
Respiratory issues such as asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), or Cystic Fibrosis mostly worsen during the spring season when the allergies aggravate symptoms. To control or to minimize these symptoms, the medicines have to be administered by using a compressor nebulizer system as it is prescribed by the physician.
The medicine which is in a liquid form is placed in the cup of the nebulizer. The compressor, which is connected to a nebulizer by a flexing tubing, it generates a precise pressure and air flow which drives the nebulizer.
That breaks down the liquid medication into a very fine mist form, which is termed as 'aerosol cloud' which is then inhaled and absorbed into the lungs.
The duration of the treatment can last about 5 to 20 minutes. That depends on the amount of nebulizer medicine and the performance of the compressor and nebulizer system.
