NECA SDCC 2019 TMNT (1990 Movie) 7” Scale Action Figure “The Capture of Splinter” 4-Pack Set
In recent years, NECA had the most in-demand exclusive figures of San Diego Comic-Con. Their packed set of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" figures which are based on the 1990 live action movie were sold out quickly.
It was so popular that the company then finally found a way to re-release the action figures individually at Gamestop stores all over nationwide. It is still occasionally possible to find some of those there, but now they have the company. In the year 2019's "Capture of Splinter" set, the film's Shredder, Splinter, and two of the Foot Clan come to 7 inches of scale for the first time.
Splinter adds some of the value this time around by being the first of these figures and not to have been made in 18 inch scale firstly. With having a fully poseable body and a bendy tail beneath a ragged cloth outfit, and metal chain manacles, he is all new and all set.
The manacles are hinged and are very easy to pop off, so the fans can finally reenact that " Skipping Stones" music video. He also contains a cardboard "crate" with a small NECA logo mentioned on it. The box apparently comprises of toys, even though the company of course did not exist in the year 1990.
Shredder is mainly a scaled-down version of the quarter scale figure, but to the extent that there are differences, they are mostly in the cape. It is still metallic camo on the outside, see-through inside. However, it does not hang loose in the smaller size, so it contains bendable wires down the edges, and an extra white padding inside to make the shoulders scrunch up correctly.
Adding to that, it offers more coverage of the figure overall. Like its bigger counterpart, it ties up with a hook-and-eye clasp.
It appears that the Shredder and the Foot Soldier come with all their quarter scale weapons. The set also includes a weapons rack for most of them. From what I remember, NECA had a quarter scale weapons rack on display last year.
This set is great because of the way they were displayed in the packaging. The cloth outfit also looks amazing, especially with all the frayed ends and torn pieces. It really looks like it's real when you first look at these action figures.
Just as all of the figures in the movie line before Splinter, the detailing of all over the figure is simply amazing. Not only is the fur sculpted well enough, and the nails are rodent-like, the minor details like the dirty wrappings on the figure's ankle and feet are also included which is just mind-blowing.
I really like the portrait for this figure. The textures and paint from the neck which looks darker and rougher (and longer) then bleeding in smoothly to the cheek and nose area is done so well. It is so clear that they made sure that fans save that Oroku Saki chopped off his right ear, too. The detailing in his eyes is also great.
Overall, I must say that these action figures are one great package.
